Purim Parties in Israel

“Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people of the ancient Persian Empire from Haman’s plot to annihilate them, as recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther (Megillat Esther). According to the story, Haman cast lots to determine the day upon which to exterminate the Jews. Purim is characterized by public recitation of the Book of Esther (keriat ha-megilla), giving mutual gifts of food and drink (mishloach manot), giving charity to the poor (mattanot la-evyonim), and a celebratory meal (se’udat Purim); other customs include drinking wine, wearing of masks and costumes, and public celebration” (Wiki).

Most secular Jews celebrate Purim, by wearing costumes (for kids it’s the biggest and most important holiday of the year, naturally), and attending the wildest parties they can find. This is the only Jewish holiday in which we are all obeyed to drink “till you don’t remember who you are”. And thus, my friends, tomorrow (Friday) night will give visitors to Israel some of the best opportunities for club and bar hopping.

This Year I’ll be going to Oren Coma’s Old School Trance Party at the Comfort 13 club (located in Florentin neighborhood – south Tel Aviv). Its a really cool club with an outdoor back yard and a small swimming pool. Last year, Ranger Wow from San Francisco, a good old friend of the Degania gang, visited us and came along to the party, bringing with him, his special SF vibes. This year, you are all invited to join us – no matter where you are from.

All details regarding the Party (location, entrance, DJ line-up, phone for tickets etc.) can be found Here.
