Its My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To

Happy Birthday Isragirl, Aren’t you too old for Blogging?

Isragirl Presents : Birthday, by Berry Sakharof and Infected Mushroom, Clip by Lenningx ©

Yes, I know its lame to post about my own birthday, but hay, you try coming up with a topic 4 times a week, and we’ll see how long you get around the birthday post… So let’s do it and be done with it! Tomorrow is my birthday, yap, my special day. In a galactical effort not to be seriously morbid or just plain cynical, I’ve chosen a song I actually like. It’s called Birthday and it starts with “Today is a Birthday” (Its some what of Israeli slang…). The song, written originally as a ballad by Berry Sakharof, was Remixed few years later by Infected Mushroom and the outcome was a hit. I remember dancing this track on a friend’s boat-birthday-party in the Sea of Galilee a few years back, it feels like ages ago… It was the last song after a long night and morning of trance music in the middle of the lake, and as we made our way back to Tiberias the infected version of Birthday squeezed every drop of energy still left in us. It was crazy.

I’ve decided to post this version that doesn’t include the video clip, since this one had better sound, and after all this is the point of the post – that the song is fucking awesome. If you wish to watch the somewhat trippy video featuring Sakharof and the Mushroom boys (Erez Ayzen and Amit Duvdevani), it’s on YouTube. If you are a Dony Darko fan you will like the video, I’m sure. And if you are interested in the lyrics, click on the video I’ve posted, you will find in the responses section that some one translated the song to English (poor translation, but what to do?).

Last year I went skydiving with The Man on my birthday and it was WoW, this year I’ll settle for a gathering of friends, hopefully outside of Tel Aviv. On second thought why not jump again? Maybe, we’ll see… Places I’ve celebrated birthdays at: New York, London Johannesburg, Manali (North India)… Oh Manali, now that WAS a birthday!!! It had nothing to do with me, but there was a party, it was on the right date, in a stunning location outside the village, the music was very happy and so were everyone there. Trance in the Himalaya – An excellent way to celebrate your birthday (even if you are passed your 20′s). Actually, Manali is a fantastic place to celebrate BEING, regardless of birthdays, partying, music and even drugs. And come to think of it, this should be my lesson: birthdays are about celebrating BEING, I needn’t do anything special, I just have to look around and appreciate everything I’ve got.

A glimpse of Tel Aviv – Shana Tova Madonna

Forbs Magazine published lately that Madonna made in 2007 more money then any other musician in the world. Good for you Madonna…. Well as you know, Madonna is a passionate Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) student, and in the past two years she had spent Rosh Hashana (the Jewish new year holiday) in Israel. Since she makes so much money, I guess she could spend her holidays any where she would like, and if she chose Israel – maybe she knows something others don’t… Holidays in Israel are fantastic, if you are lucky enough to know any Israelis most chances that you will be invited to a family feast, and you should strongly consider saying yes, cause you’ll have the time of your life.

Check out this video called “Shana Tova Madonna” – it’s a small taste of Tel Aviv – and was made in her honor as a welcome present – but I dedicate it to you

Oh, and by the way, Shana Tova means Happy New Year in Hebrew.

»* Many Thanks to Omer Shalev who made this video and to YouTube…

Snow in Israel – a celebration

Snow in the Golan Heights

It started snowing last night… It happens once or twice a year in Israel, tops.

It’s snowing in Jerusalem, snowing in the Golan Heights and also covering the gorgeous Hermon Mountain.

Hopefully, Israelis will be able to take out their snowboards by the end of the week and travel up north for some extreme white fun.

My mom lives in the north of Israel, her office is over looking the Sea of Galilee and on good days she can see the Hermon Mountain from her office window. I got this beautiful picture from her, it was taken in the north part of the Golan Heights, and I just had to share it with all of you. Thanks mom….

A white celebration in the scenic Golan Heights of Israel. How I wish I could be there on that day

Pilobolus Dance company in Israel

pilobolusPILOBOLUS, the amazing dance company will be performing tonight in Tel Aviv. Much admired around the world and loved by Israeli audience, the company has returned for another tour in our country and will be performing in the next few days in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv (TLV). How lucky am I? I have tickets for Friday’s show. Amongst the 5 new pieces they’ll be performing, will be RUSHES, created by Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Polak, two leading Israeli choreographers famous for their theatrical style. Pinto and Polak were invited to work with the virtuoso dancers of Piloboluse as guest choreographers.

After the show we will go for a drink and a late dinner in one of TLV’s fine restaurants, and maybe, even – some clubbing…Cant wait.

Israel is a great place to live in if you are a dance fan. There are more dance companies here then people… and cause Israeli audience love this form of art, the best of dance companies from around the world, come here. Have I mentioned that I’m lucky?

“When I Dance, Its like electricity is going through my whole body” (Billy Elliot). Dance (Especially Modern Ballet) is the most popular stage art in Israel

Party on Tel Aviv

The big secret is out – Tel Aviv (TLV), the secular and sane capitol of Israel, is a great place to party. It has excellent weather – so leaving your house/hotel is not a big deal, it has plenty of mind-blowing clubs, friendly people that love to party, superb local and international DJs and lots of good vibes.
Why do Israelis like to party so much? Some say that life in stressful Middle East is a good trigger; other suggest that after the army service Israelis need to indulge them selves in order to forget…and it takes a long time to forget… Maybe, Who knows? The fact is that parties in Israel are wild and if you are planning a trip to Israel attending at least one party is a must, just like visiting Jerusalem or the Dead Sea.
Outdoor festivals and raves season starts around April and carry on till the end of October. DJs from around the world come here and with our Mediterranean sun – an Israeli outdoor rave is a sheer pleasure. If Trance is not your thing – a long list of clubs awaits you in TLV and surly will put a smile on your face. Brilliant parties take place every night of the week with Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays being the major clubbing nights. We start our Parties late, around 1am, and we go on till the last person on the dance floor falls.
Alcohol is legal from 18 years of age, but that doesn’t suggest that you will find 18 year-olds in those clubs. Well maybe – if they are very attractive girls… Drugs are not legal but are easy to find – like anywhere else. And, like anywhere else, it helps to know a local in order to score… Pockets and bags are checked at the entrance by security for weapons and drugs – so be smart and patient. There is no dress code and you can show off anything you could possibly want – but you know club selection, don’t you? They’re always looking for the good-looking….As for smoking, unfortunately a no smoking law has passed recently, so you’ll need to stamp your arm and go outside should you fancy a smoke.

Coming to Israel? Pack your parting gear – as you’ll need it!!!

“Purim” is coming up ( March) – Get ready for the wildest parties of the Year. Israel will dress up in costumes, Alcohol for every one (so commends the Bible) and Tel Aviv will party like there’s no tomorrow
