Two Music Festivals for the End of Aug

Live music, beautiful beaches and long sexy nights

This is my 100 post…not bad ha? and what could be better than writing about music concerts and summer festivals on my 100 post celebration. Its almost the end of Aug and in some countries that means getting close to the end of summer, to short and dark days, to the cold. Well, not in Israel, for us summer continues till the end of Oct and aside from the fact that school starts on Sep. 1st, these months are a regular part of the local summer and a vacation in Israel during this time is still very much a summer holiday.

Volume Kinneret Festival

If you are currently in the holy land or planing on arriving here in the next few days here are two recommendations for fun music festivals:

Beer City in Haifa (Goldstar Festival) – Sponsored by Goldstar beer, a popular local beer, this festival returns for a couple of nights of live music, lots of beer (Israeli, German, Irish and more), food that goes well with it (for Israelis meet goes well with everything), artists fair and parties on the beach. The Haifa crowed is well known in the local scene as very happy, this could be a great opportunity to experience excellent local Hip Hop and Alternative Rock. You can expect a crowed of 16 year old to 60…

Where: Student Beach in Haifa | When: Aug 20-21 from 8pm | Entrance: Free

Who: Wed – HaDag Nakhash (Fish Snake), Beit HaBoobot (Doll House); Thur – The Giraffes, Ivry Lider

Volume Kinneret – The festival returns for the second time to the east shore of the Sea of Galilee (Luna Gal Water Park). Three days of fun are guaranteed to those who will make there way up north to enjoy live music, water sports and fun, camping by the lake and lots of hormones (The oldest person there wont be over 24…). If you are traveling in Israel with 16-22 year olds my tip would be to drop them in the festival and pick them up when its over, they’ll enjoy it for sure and you’ll be able to focus on interesting sights and attractions in the area (Golan Heights, Tiberias, the Upper Galilee, Nazareth, Beit Shean etc.). The first night of the festival will host the final show of “A Star is Born” (Israel’s Idol) and the other two nights will bring you some of Israel’s best musicians, one after another (Aviv Geffen, Mooki, The Jews, HaDag Nakhash, Synergy, Mosh Ben Ari, Beit HaBoobot, HaTikva 6, Ivry Lider, The Giraffes, HaShavim), plus smaller concerts in three special chai tents: Rock, Acoustic and Hip Hop.The water park slides will be open every night till 2am and Parties will continue till morning or till everyone drop in exhaustion.

Where: Luna Gal, Sea of Galilee | When: 23-26 Aug | Tickets: 75 ILS at 052-6779503 (Nadav)

Summer, Sun, Beaches, Music, Alcohol and Parties…

This Thursday Night Out Tips Special

Live music in Fresh Town and French Electro under the ground

isragirl presents : Blondie, Video by susieretrofuture ©

I suppose I should start with the fact that in Israel, or in Tel Aviv to be exact, Thursday is the big night out. Most people in Israel don’t work on Fridays (See Israel’s weekends and national holidays), and in Tel Aviv people are always anxious to start the weekend as early as possible, so Thursday night is going out night…

This Thursday Tel Aviv will celebrate the 2003 declaration of the white city – a world heritage site, I’ve dedicated two posts to the events that will take place all across Tel Aviv and Jaffa, on the streets, in galleries, theaters, parks, museums and along the beaches, but if you are not satisfied with all those options, I have a couple more delicious ideas for you.. but stay open minded and try to see the humor in my suggestions, after all you are on a vacation:

Blondie – Yes-Yes, Blondie, Debbie Harry Blondie, will make you boogie at the open and very lovely if I may add, amphitheater at Ra’anana Park (Half hour from the center of Tel Aviv during off peak hours). I’ve seen a couple of concerts there (Lauryn Hill and Cesaria Evora) and if you manage to avoid the traffic and get there early you will have only good memories from the venue and its special energies…(Ra’anana in Hebrew  is Fresh)

Brodinski will be the special guest of PAG Gay party line in Barzilai Club. And true, many other fine musicians and DJs will play all over the city this Thursday, but this French guy, who’s famous for treks such as Bad Runner BTW, built his electro-musical career through MySpace (or at least that’s where he became popular first), so as a bloger I just had to show my support and invite you all to enjoy the party!!!

Go crazy or foolish in an outdoor concert or dive into Techno-House oblivious

Its My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To

Happy Birthday Isragirl, Aren’t you too old for Blogging?

Isragirl Presents : Birthday, by Berry Sakharof and Infected Mushroom, Clip by Lenningx ©

Yes, I know its lame to post about my own birthday, but hay, you try coming up with a topic 4 times a week, and we’ll see how long you get around the birthday post… So let’s do it and be done with it! Tomorrow is my birthday, yap, my special day. In a galactical effort not to be seriously morbid or just plain cynical, I’ve chosen a song I actually like. It’s called Birthday and it starts with “Today is a Birthday” (Its some what of Israeli slang…). The song, written originally as a ballad by Berry Sakharof, was Remixed few years later by Infected Mushroom and the outcome was a hit. I remember dancing this track on a friend’s boat-birthday-party in the Sea of Galilee a few years back, it feels like ages ago… It was the last song after a long night and morning of trance music in the middle of the lake, and as we made our way back to Tiberias the infected version of Birthday squeezed every drop of energy still left in us. It was crazy.

I’ve decided to post this version that doesn’t include the video clip, since this one had better sound, and after all this is the point of the post – that the song is fucking awesome. If you wish to watch the somewhat trippy video featuring Sakharof and the Mushroom boys (Erez Ayzen and Amit Duvdevani), it’s on YouTube. If you are a Dony Darko fan you will like the video, I’m sure. And if you are interested in the lyrics, click on the video I’ve posted, you will find in the responses section that some one translated the song to English (poor translation, but what to do?).

Last year I went skydiving with The Man on my birthday and it was WoW, this year I’ll settle for a gathering of friends, hopefully outside of Tel Aviv. On second thought why not jump again? Maybe, we’ll see… Places I’ve celebrated birthdays at: New York, London Johannesburg, Manali (North India)… Oh Manali, now that WAS a birthday!!! It had nothing to do with me, but there was a party, it was on the right date, in a stunning location outside the village, the music was very happy and so were everyone there. Trance in the Himalaya – An excellent way to celebrate your birthday (even if you are passed your 20′s). Actually, Manali is a fantastic place to celebrate BEING, regardless of birthdays, partying, music and even drugs. And come to think of it, this should be my lesson: birthdays are about celebrating BEING, I needn’t do anything special, I just have to look around and appreciate everything I’ve got.

Best Birthday Song Ever by Berry Sakharof and Infected Mushroom

HaBanot Nechama Music Video of So Far Israeli song

The song I’ve chosen for this post is called “To Be” it was a big hit in Israel last summer and you can still hear it on the radio a few times a week simply because it’s a beautiful song. The song is in Hebrew and English – so I think you’ll be able to understand what it’s about even if you don’t understand Hebrew. The Band is called HaBanot Nechama, in Hebrew it means The Nechama Girls...
