If you are a woman traveling in Israel, you’ll be able to enjoy a special treat this weekend (Jun 19-21). Shakti Festival – a festival for women of all ages, will take place at Beit Oren, a beautiful green spot on Mount Carmel, overlokking the sea. All you have to bring is two comfortable outfits, a swim suit maybe (for the in-water yoga), a friend who’s willing to come along is always nice, and an open heart. The festival will start on Thursday and will offer so many activities, I’m not sure where to start (too bad the Shakti website is not translated into English): lectures and open conversations about any female topic you can think of (The power of choice, Fertility issues and failed pregnancy, relationships and cancer…); Yoga of every kind in a swimming pool and for pregnant women, Meditation techniques (Vipassana, Dynamics, Om…), Dance workshops (Afro-Brazilian, Dancing with wolves, Purifying dances, Healing, Just Dance…), Reversing, Chi-Kong, Guided Imagination, Sexuality and Tantric practices, all sort of celebrations (Sisterhood and Goddesses…), and rituals (Purification, Transcendence…), Dare Stage, Theater of the Mind, Gaya technique for creativity, Vessels for Peace, Motherhood circle, Breathing methods, Feminist discussions and Belly dancing.
Special events for everyone: Opening ceremony with Lea Shabat on Thur, on Friday evening – Kabalat Shabbat – Receiving of the Shabbat. Live performances by Marina Maximilian Blooming and Belly Dancer Sigal Ziv, followed by live concert of Ci Haiman. The celebration may go on all night since close to sunrise another emotional ceremony awaits the girl: welcoming the sunrise of the longest day in the calendar (Jun 21). After two full days of 92 workshops, circles, celebrations and dancing, the festival will end in a ceremony lead by Shakti instructors and speakers, and with a gypsy dancing show and party.
There is so much to do, and very little time… On the other hand you can zone out next to the pool and just enjoy a giggle with your friends. You choose what to make out of this beautiful surroundings and pure female energy… The outcome is always empowering, and for some – exhilarating.
