A few days ago, my 8.5 years old niece recruited me for a mission: she had organized with her best friend a beach party on HaBonim (Masons) beach for her class, and I was chosen, by her, to be one of three “responsible” adults who will stay on the beach with her friends - nineteen 3rd graders…I had to agree. I still don’t have children of my own and one day I will need this brat to babysit for me, so I got to agree to everything she asks for…This is how I found myself spending a night on one of Israel’s most beautiful beaches. HaBonim beach is located some 20 min. drive south of Haifa and if you are looking for a nice beach to camp on - this one should defiantly be on your list along with its neighboring beach - Dor. These two beaches are protected as they are declared a reservation or a beach national park or something of the sort. They are serene and well maintained and camping on them is allowed for some reason, but people who don’t live in the area have to pay a modest entrance fee (25 NIS per car).

During summer HaBonim beach is rather busy and one cannot really appreciate the small bay shape of it, but it a’int summer yet, and the beach was almost completely deserted and to my astonishment the 3rd graders managed to keep themselves busy most of the evening. I had a great time and didn’t even have to be that responsible. Sure, kids fight a little, but watching them play spin the bottle was so much fun, it almost made me change my mind about today’s kids. At 3am when kids and adults alike were asleep I sneaked out of the tent and set on the beach alone. I lit my irresponsible cigarette, and watched the half moon casting its bright yellow light on the Mediterranean.

In the morning the children had breakfast and went in the water for a swim - they looked so happy and pleased with life and nature that it made me wanna ask - when can we do this again? It was a magnificent night and a wonderful adventure and I got to see two 3rd graders having their first kiss…what else could I ask for?

Tip: If you like skydiving - HaBonim beach is the place for you. There is a skydiving school there and from personal experience I can tell you that its good and safe. I skydived there last June and it was FANTASTIC!!! The landscape is just breathtaking! More info HaBonim Paradive Skydiving.

Spend a night on a beach, its very recommended for your mind and soul. Dont forget to send me the Photos…
