Jerusalem song by Matisyahu

Many thanks to Matisyahu for this excellent song and clip (found on YouTube uploaded by zindabada).

For those who find it hard to understand the words, or do understand the words but not the context, I’ll just add that the phrase: “Jerusalem if I forget you, then my right hand will forget what it’s suppose to do” is a part of a famous oath attributed to the Jews who lived in the Babylon exile. To this day it’s considered an eternal pledge that every Jew carries in his/her heart – not to forget Jerusalem or the destruction of the great temple that stood in it.

At the end of every Jewish wedding ceremony, just before the groom breaks the glass and everyone shouts “Mazal Tov”, the groom has to say these words: “If I forget Jerusalem, my right hand will be forgotten, my tongue will stick to my palate, if I don’t praise you on my happiest days…”

And Like Matisyahu says – dont forget Jerusalem
