Old Acre from the Sky

acre from the sky

I stumbled over this cool photo of Acre taken from the sky with a special lens. I wanted to share it with you even though it doesn’t do justice with beautiful Acre. This is Acre on wiki (first paragraph only): “Acre (or Akko), is a city in the Western Galilee district of northern Israel. It is situated on a low promontory at the northern extremity of Haifa Bay. From ancient times, Acre was regarded as the key to the Levant because of its strategic coastal location”. Well, that’s all true and interesting, but like the photo, tells you very little about picturesque Acre. It doesn’t say anything about the wonderful old port and marina; it doesn’t mention the charismatic Knights Halls hiding under the Hospitallerian Citadel or the inspiring Ohr Torah synagogue. Go to Acre and walk in the alleys of the past. Make time to see also the Mosque of Jezzar Pasha, Hamam Al Basha (a striking old Turkish bath), the churches scattered around the old city and the Baha’i holly places in and around Acre. Visit the markets and taste the local favorite pastries and if you make it to Acre before 12 noon you’ll be able to enjoy the best Hummus Israel has to offer, at Saied. Ask anyone in Acre and they’ll guide to this shrine of heavenly Hummus (personal recommendation: order Mashawoosha).
